Flag of Comoros
Current flag has been adopted in 2001 after series of changes. The flag had three variants from 1978 to 2001, though all of them consisted of green leaf, white crescent and four white five-pointed stars in different variations. Mayotte has an official status of the French overseas territory, however, Comors Island do not recognize it.
History of Comoros Flag
The constitution of October 3, 1996. Established yet another flag. The horns of the crescent were again turned, this time toward the fly end of the flag. The Islamic symbolism was reinforced by the addition of Arabic inscriptions—in the upper fly corner “Allah” and in the lower hoist corner “Muhammad”. The fourth star in the flag represented a territorial claim on Mayotte, although it continued to be under French control.
