The flag features the country’s national emblem. Yellow represents the Sultan of Brunei, and the black and white stripes represent the country’s chief ministers.

the flag of Brunei, which has been adopted in 1959, is composed of a yellow leaf, black and white diagonal stripes and a national emblem in the center of the flag. Although a few countries have half of their national flag in yellow, Brunei alone has a yellow background.
A new constitution was adopted in September 1959, and simultaneously a modification was introduced in the flag.
